Nationwide Egg Prices Jump 20% In June, Most In 30 Years

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – The price of eggs got a 20 percent jump nationwide from May to June, ABC 7 News reported.

It's the largest month-to-month jump in three decades, and bird flu is being cited as the reason.

Geese and ducks who carry the disease have been migrating to the Midwest's poultry farms, affecting egg-laying hens, noted ABC 7.

The number of affected hens is being estimated at 40 million.
